Trail-Ready Teas for Mountain Mamas at Ku Cha House of Tea
The Mountain West supports all kinds of people, from Latino ranchers to urban accountants to suburban shop owners. Boulder County, where we live in Colorado, supports a wealth of what in advertising they call “personas”: tidy collections of demographic signals that help give shape to different consumers. One of them? How about “mountain mamas.” By that we mean women between the ages of about 30 and 50 who have kids and take their trail pursuits seriously.
These mountain devotees hit the trails on mountain bikes during work lunch breaks. While the kids are at swimming practice, they slip into trail running sneakers and race up and down Boulder’s network of dirt paths, over root and rock. You’ll find them, too, with little ones on their backs while they climb toward summits. Shopping? It’s all about wearables like Garmins and Ouras, clothes that breathe and water bottle tech. She might shop at REI a good bit.
Let’s add Ku Cha House of Tea to the shopping destinations. Tea, you see, is the OG functional beverage. Energy drink? Of course. Recovery? In spades. Allergy relief (pollen floods the outdoors in spring and early summer)? Plenty of tea options. Mental clarity and optimized hydration? Yes and yes! Compared to the canned drinks lining market refrigerated shelves, tea offers all of above on an extreme budget, too.
Some of our recommendations make the most sense sipped cool, from a thermos while on trail. Others are fine either way—brewed and consumed hot at home or the trail, or chilled before quenching that thirst.
Either way, we are here for you, mountain mamas!
Teas for Mountain Mamas: Allergy Blend

First things first—for chunks of the year when the weather can be especially pleasant, trees, grasses and weeds broadcast pollen … everywhere. Cars turn yellow with the stuff. And faces take on shades of red from so much sneezing, nose-blowing and eye-rubbing. Tea doesn’t deliver pharmaceutical relief for allergy sufferers. But it can mitigate symptoms.
Our Allergy Blend uses turmeric, nettle, ginger, elderflower, tulsi and rosemary to help struggling immune systems manage, and cope with, the arrival of pesky pollen. This tea tastes great, and delivers results. Perfect for mountain mamas suffering from seasonal allergies.
Teas for Mountain Mamas: Rooibos Creamsicle

Rooibos teas can help any athlete boost their hydration game—and that includes mamas out on trails. The tea, brewed from a shrub that grows throughout South Africa, contains loads of electrolytes, which are key for hydration. We carry a range of rooibos teas, and felt this one might get across especially welcome warm-weather vibes. A creamsicle in a thermos? Yes to that, thank you very much. This thirst quencher contains rooibos, with contributions from real orange peel, yogurt (just whispers, for texture and flavor) and a little sugar. This registers as pure treat for people logging miles on those flower-spangled trails.
Teas for Mountain Mamas: Ripe Pu-erh (Organic)

Energy on the trail? Yes, please! And why not make the source pu-erh, China’s famous fermented tea. Pu-erh’s energy properties come from the caffeine. Not too much. Just right. Trail fanatics can sip it for hours without getting the jitters and sour stomach that comes from some caffeinated beverages. Bonus—pu-erh can help improve digestion, thanks to its fermented qualities. For those out in the mountains munching on bars, trail mix and the rest of the no-bonking solutions, pu-erh’s digestive advantages might sing!
Teas for Mountain Mamas: CHA Relax (Organic)

After a morning or afternoon (or both) navigating granite slopes, muddy ascents and ribbons of packed soil threaded with ponderosa pine roots, mountain mamas need relaxation. Now. We came up with CHA Relax to answer their needs, along with anybody else looking to ratchet down hyperactive minds and overstimulated bodies.
This special Ku Cha blend, created in collaboration with CU Boulder’s Center for Humanities and the Arts (CHA), leans into rooibos, just like our Creamsicle blend. This helps not just with hydration—the abundance of electrolytes and other antioxidants aids bodies in need of repair and recovery. Perfect for post-mountain sipping. It delivers a lot of vitamins, too.
To this splendid foundation we add ginkgo leaf, the world’s most ancient plant, which contains compounds that help open blood vessels. Not only does this assist a body in recovery, it also stimulates mental acuity. Rounding it out, you’ll encounter elderflower (awesome for immune function), chamomile (famous for ripening serenity) and spearmint (flavor zip!).
Have fun out there, mountain mamas. And don’t forget to invite tea along for your warm-weather mountain pursuits!
