Sip your way to balance this late summer

Sip your way to balance this late summer

We bid goodbye to July tomorrow, and welcome August. July compels us out for vacations, pool visits and mountain excursions, and August brings on the same vibes. But it comes with a twist—it’s back-to-school for lots of kids across the country.

Before parents’ know it, the routine returns: breakfasts, packing lunches, piloting kids to bus stops or schools, after-school activities, homework. The can come as a shock—one day the family is going out for ice cream after the five o’clock dinner, and the next everybody is ping-ponging between school-oriented activities.

To prep for the transformation and its sudden blitzkrieg of rigor and go-go-go, we turn to tea’s calming benefits. We of course depend on our favorite beverage for morning sparks and afternoon fuel–and that comes in awfully handy when we are racing from commitment to commitment. But tea also contributes toward managing stress and bringing about peace and clarity.

We find that domestic felicity and family can be much improved through the simple act of sipping calming teas. We certainly aren’t alone.

From late-summer stillness to back-to-school energy, tea helps ease the transition with calm, clarity and care.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), there is a “fifth season” called “late summer,” which falls between mid-July and late September. This transitional phase between summer and autumn—what we in the United States often refer to as the “dog days of summer”—encourages people to center themselves and prepare for autumn’s contemplative, inward pull.

During “late summer” we should slow down—as much as possible. Aligning with routines is encouraged. And working toward bringing about mental clarity and emotional balance should stand as a goal.

In short, it’s a time to bolster and strengthen our foundations before the return of cooler weather. It’s also perfect for savoring summer’s last gasp—slow down and appreciate the last patch of warmth. Soon enough, we’ll be sitting around fires and eating soup and stew.

We’ve got just the teas to help you achieve healthy “late summer” vibes!

And it’s just in time for August, which is National Wellness Month! Stay tuned for content all month revolving around wellness.

Wellness Teas: Be Happy Rooibos (Organic)

Be happy—with our Be Happy Blend!

Some teas dial in the serenity by ripening sleepiness. Not this one. Sip our Be Happy Rooibos to color your August days with inner feelings of tranquility while simultaneously experiencing bright alertness.

Key to this magnificent blend is its ingredient trio: rooibos, lemon peel and St. John’s Wort. The lemon is there for flavor and palate zing—it also helps with digestion and contributing toward wakefulness.

Meanwhile the main ingredient, rooibos, floods the body with electrolytes and antioxidants, all of which foster the optimization of human biology and physiology. Among other things, it helps keep the body hydrated—not always easy in August.

Finally, St. John’s Wort. For generations, natural health practitioners around the world have tapped the flower for the sake of mental health. People use the plant, widely available ground and in capsules, to help improve moods and mitigate stressors—and once school starts, those stressors will rise.

 Wellness Teas: Balance Tea

Balance is vital for mental and physical health. Bring it in with this tea.

We appreciate Ayurveda, the ancient Indian approach toward wellness and health. As with TCM, balance serves as the spine of this intricate web of protocols and wisdom. When the body and mind are out of balance, ill health erupts. But bodies and minds grounded in equity tend to lead toward vigor.

This caffeine-free blend helps to ignite relaxation and harmony—we sip it often. With cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, fennel and ginger, it transforms into a heady and aromatic elixir when brewed. The tea’s licorice root enlivens the flavor and also aids digestion—with ginger and fennel in this tea, it’s a true digestive powerhouse. And the rose adds perfume and calming notes.

Wellness Teas: Ginger Refresh (Organic)

Add zip to your day, and clarity—without the caffeine.

Pure pick-me-up! That’s how we describe our popular Ginger Refresh. And it manages to rev the engines minus stimulants like caffeine. Instead, it rouses sluggish souls through bright ingredients like lemongrass, peppermint, lemon peel, licorice and of course ginger. In TCM, ginger gets leverage to help revive sapped energy—a common August condition. In addition, these ingredients offer botanical routes toward soothing stomachs and easing symptoms of the common cold.

It’s a wake-up kind of treat—but in a measured and calm manner. Sip a mug or two, and you’ll feel both calm and clear.

Wellness Teas: Rose Puerh (Organic)

Rose puerh helps with digestion. It’s mild dose of caffeine brings sparks. And the aroma and flavor are extremely calming.

We couldn’t offer a dive into wellness teas without exploring puerh, the famous fermented tea from China. This almost mystical category of tea represents the only significant fermented style of tea in the world. Tea artisans use different methods to trigger fermentation in piles of harvested tea leaves, and then in many cases form them into “cakes” that the continue experiencing fermentation. Puerh aficionados age their cakes in the manner of wines—with careful attention toward environmental conditions like humidity and temperature. Over time, flavors in the tea evolve. It’s a beautiful style of tea.

Our Rose Puerh—earthy and fragrant—brings loads of vitamins and nutrients to the brew. Sipping it enhances natural beauty (skin health!), immunity, tones organs and fights cell damages caused by free radicals. Further, its soothing fragrance and rich, sweet taste will lift your spirits!
