The Legend of Da Hong Pao
Da Hong Pao is ranked one of top 10 Chinese teas. It’s grown in WuYi mountain area, in FuJian province, China. It has more than 20 different teas in that region and Da Hong Pao is the best among them.Long time ago, there was a poor man went to enter the national contest. The winner will become a government official immediately. He was ill on the road and he almost couldn’t make it. Luckily, the monk of the temple where he lodged gave him a cup of tea and he was cured immediately. He finally made to the first place of the contest and got a very high position in the government. At the time the emperor’s wife got the same disease and this man presented the tea left over and it helped the emperor’s wife to recover. The emperor was so happy and asked the man to cover the tea trees with the red jacket he wares. On the very next day after the trees were covered with the red jacket, the tea leaves became red. Thereafter, this tea is called Da Hong Pao, which means the red jacket.
Right now, only a few Da Hong Pao tea trees left in the WuYi mountain area. The production volume is very limited. Although the tea leaves are red, the teas are black after dried.
