But soon \u2014 we certainly hope \u2014 it once again will require little more than booking flights and planning itineraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One region we are eager to explore is Yunnan Province in southern China, a California-sized sprawl of mountains, plains, rivers and forests that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kuchatea.com\/blog\/taste-of-yunnan\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">offers distinct ethnic diversity<\/mark><\/a>, beautiful scenery, laid-back and rural lifestyles and great food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kuchatea.com\/blog\/black-tea-diversity\/\">birthplace of tea<\/a>, and for tea fanatics (hands raised), the province <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kuchatea.com\/blog\/teas-from-southern-china-tea-region\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">contains historic tea farms<\/mark><\/a> and ancient tea trees. Many groups offered<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kuchatea.com\/blog\/taste-of-yunnan\/\"> Yunnan tea<\/a> tours; we trust these will return again soon. One <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kuchatea.com\/blog\/teas-from-xinan\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">common stop among tea lovers<\/mark><\/a> is Puerh City, which is at the center of the trade in Yunnan\u2019s most famous tea, fermented pu-erh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detailing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kuchatea.com\/blog\/yunnan-cuisine-teas\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">many attractions worth visiting in Yunnan<\/mark><\/a> could fill a book. Experiencing the glory of the Stone Forest doesn\u2019t require epic drives or treks. In fact, it\u2019s so pristine and tidy it\u2019s also known as the \u201cStone Forest Museum,\u201d as it\u2019s all essentially on display within a small area \u2014 just five square miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201ctrees\u201d in the forest are huge stone formations, formed after millions of years of erosion. With shapes like columns, cones, mushrooms, animals, plants, pagodas and even humans, the Stone Forest is one of the most sought-after attractions in Yunnan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Naxi and Yi people call the Stone Forest area home. These ancient people have lived in the mountainous regions for centuries. The 118-square-mile lake, the largest in Yunnan and eighth largest in China, is also known as \u201cSparkling Pearl Embedded in a Highland,\u201d a name that suggests the appearance of the lake \u2014 as a pearl in a mountain setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lake encompasses numerous areas, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yunnanadventure.com\/index.php\/Attraction\/show\/id\/584.html\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Haigeng Park<\/span><\/a>, which features a natural swimming pool attracting thousands of visitors a day during summer. Together, they create a mosaic of color and shape. Lijiang is immensely popular with tourists, who come to tour an historic village blending elements from different nearby cultures \u2014 Han, Tibetan, Naxi, Yi and Bai.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cobbled streets, stone bridges, canals dotted with water wheels and lined with flowers characterize Lijiang. In China, the well-preserved Three Pagodas of Dali demonstrate engineering savvy stretching back 1,100 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tall (16 stories), cream-colored pagodas, arranged in the shape of a triangle, draw tourists from around the world with their delicate beauty. Monastery near Shangri-la in Yunnan<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>At 11,300 feet in elevation, 1,300-year-old Shangri-La, meaning \u201ca land of sacredness and peace\u201d in Tibetan, is a stirring site, steeped in Tibetan Buddhist culture and noted for sweeping mountain views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area, with its clear lakes, deep gorges, awe-inspiring mountains and dense forests, attracts people from around the world seeking natural beauty and exposure to Tibetan culture. More than 20 ethnic groups call Shangri-La home, with Tibetans comprising most of the population.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This offers a small slice of Yunnan\u2019s many tourist treasures. Once travel becomes easier again, we will return to Yunnan and explore its fascinating nooks.
