While “rice tea” can sometimes describe other preparations, genmaicha is the most widely recognized and historically rooted version.

Does genmaicha contain caffeine?
Yes, genmaicha contains caffeine, but typically less than standard green teas. The roasted rice mellows both flavor and caffeine impact, making it a popular choice for those seeking balance rather than intensity.

What does rice tea taste like?
Genmaicha offers a comforting, savory profile with roasted, nutty notes layered over gentle vegetal green tea. The result is smooth, warming, and exceptionally approachable.

Is rice tea good for daily drinking?
Many people enjoy genmaicha as an everyday tea because it is gentle, grounding, and easy on the palate. Its balanced character makes it suitable for both mindful rituals and casual enjoyment.

Can I drink genmaicha in the evening?
Because genmaicha is lower in caffeine than many green teas, it is often suitable for late afternoon or early evening, depending on individual sensitivity.

How is genmaicha traditionally brewed?
Genmaicha is brewed with moderately hot water rather than boiling, allowing the green tea and roasted rice to harmonize without bitterness. Proper temperature and timing are key to unlocking its signature flavor.

Is genmaicha traditionally Japanese?
Yes. Genmaicha has deep roots in Japanese tea culture and is valued for its balance, accessibility, and comforting nature.

Explore Japanese Rice Tea with Ku Cha

Experience the balance and comfort of Japanese rice tea with Ku Cha.

Explore rice tea in 2025—learn genmaicha benefits, flavor, and brewing tips from Ku Cha.
